to the words of my mouth.

People:     I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark

                  sayings from of old.

Leader:     Things that we have heard and known, that our ancestors

                 have told us.

People:    We will not hide them from their children; we will tell

to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the

LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.

OLD TESTAMENT                                     Deuteronomy 6:6-7;20-25)

Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart.  Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.

When your children ask you in time to come, “What is the meaning of the decrees and the statutes and the ordinances that the LORD our God has commanded you?”  then you shall say to your children, “We were Pharoah’s slaves in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.  The LORD displayed before our eyes great and awesome signs and wonders against Egypt, against Pharoah and all his household.  He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land that he promised on oath to our ancestors.  Then the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our lasting good, so as to keep us alive, as is now the case.  If we diligently observe this entire commandment before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, we will be in the right.”

SPECIAL MUSIC           “Your Love Never Fails”                  Bell Choir

NEW TESTAMENT                                                           1 John 4:7-9

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.  God’s love was revealed among us in this way:  God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.

*GOSPEL LESSON                                                        Luke 10:25-28

Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus.  “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”  He said to him, “What is written in the law?  What do you read there?”  He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”  And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”

Leader:  The word of God for the people of God.

People:  Thanks be to God.
